Babyproofing Made Simple: Top Safety Tips for Every Room in Your House

From cozy to curious in a blink

One moment, your newborn is happily cooing in a bassinet. The next, they’re rolling, crawling, and pulling up on everything. Babies grow fast, and with that growth comes curiosity and risk. Babyproofing can feel overwhelming, but with a few smart changes, your home can stay both safe and welcoming.
Here’s a simple, room-by-room checklist to help you get started.

Living room

  • Cover outlets with sliding covers.
  • Anchor furniture like TVs and bookshelves to the wall.
  • Soft edges: add corner guards to coffee tables.
  • Cords & blinds: tie up dangling cords to prevent strangulation risks.

Kitchen

  • Cabinet locks for cleaning supplies, knives, and glassware.
  • Stove knob covers to keep curious fingers safe.
  • No-go zones: designate one “safe drawer” with spoons or Tupperware for little explorers.

Bathroom

  • Toilet locks (yes, babies really do love splashing there!).
  • Non-slip bath mats for tub time.
  • Keep meds up high in a locked cabinet, never in drawers.

Nursery / Bedroom

  • Crib safety: no pillows, blankets, or bumpers just a fitted sheet.
  • Baby monitor cords at least 3 feet from crib.
  • Dressers anchored to the wall to prevent tip-overs.

Outside / Patio (South Florida must-have!)

  • Pool fencing is required by law in many parts of Florida. Add self-latching gates.
  • Check plants: some common tropical plants can be toxic if chewed.
  • Mosquito safety: use screens, nets, and safe repellents.

Final tip: Think like a baby

Get down on the floor and crawl through your home you’ll spot dangers from their perspective that you’d never notice standing up.

Great info, The pool fence was an investment and I feel the pool looks soo uninviting now for adults but baby comes first!
